Director of Plough Library

Position: Director of Plough Library
Department: Library
Reports To: Vice President for Academic Affairs

Job Description:

The Director of the Plough Library provides leadership and management for all aspects of library operations, including collections, personnel, budget, and technology. The Director directs all activities of the institution's libraries and typically directs personnel, public service, collection development, acquisition, technical service, and special collection functions. The Director also plays a major leadership role for the campus community and participates actively in local and statewide consortia.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assures adequate and appropriate collections to support the curricular and research needs of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Sets priorities and administers the library budget.
  • Supervises the library staff and the physical facility.
  • Collaborates with faculty on the integration of information literacy into the curriculum.
  • Communicates to the administration the status, needs, trends, and accomplishments of the Library collections, services, and staff.
  • Oversees the operation of the University Archives and Special Collections.
  • Serves as chair of the University Library Committee.
  • Accepts committee and other assignments from the VPAA and/or the President of the University.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Masters degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program, with a subject masters or doctorate preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in an academic library.
  • Demonstrated organizational and academic leadership abilities.
  • Significant experience using and managing information and instructional technologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of professional growth and development.
