Assistant Athletic Trainer

Position:  Assistant Athletic Trainer
Location: Athletic Department
Reports to: Athletic Director/Head Athletic Trainer
Salary:  Commiserate with experiences and qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities:
Deliver medical services as part of a coordinated sports medicine team to nearly 200 student athletes competing in 13 sports.  This position requires flexibility, adaptability and a demanding work schedule along with related administrative duties.

  • Triage management and communication with coaches, players, parents, and administrators regarding injuries and emergencies.
  • Manage the day to day operations of the athletic training room.
  • Home and Away event preparation, coverage, and break down as assigned.
  • Represent the school favorably at GSC and NATA meetings.
  • Supervise and Coordinate work study students for the weight room and athletic training room.  Help maintain, oversee and procure materials to keep the athletics weight room operational.
  • Help manage an inventory system and supply budget for the department.
  • Assist with athlete clearance and obtaining pre season medical information from players and maintain appropriate medical records. Communication to and work with visiting and host team ATC’s regarding medical needs.
  • Be a host to NCAA and GSC events as medical director when needed.
  • Other similar duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree required (Masters Degree and 1-3 years experience preferred)
NATA Certification as an ATC and Tennessee State Licensure as Athletic Trainer Certified.
CPR and AED certification (lay responder instructor certification preferred)
Strength Training experience (NSCA certification preferred)
Prior experience working in college athletics is preferred.

Working Conditions:
The assistant athletic trainer will work in a variety of settings with the athletes.  This includes: indoors/outdoors, hot/cold, rain/snow, home/away components and sometimes heavy lifting along with long hours during peak times of the year.

Preferred Skills:
Interest in multiple sports, excellent communication and documentation skills, ability to manage multiple tasks independently, willingness to travel and work long hours as needed, flexibility and desire to be part of a dynamic healthcare team.
