How We Can Help You
-
Individual Consultation
Any faculty member may request an individual instruction session in his or her office or in the library. Topics can include database searching, Internet searching, and the use of library resources in general.
-
Group or Departmental Consultation
Instruction Library staff is available to provide orientation to new faculty or to demonstrate the use of any of the library's resources. Contact the Instruction Librarian for more information.
-
Instructional Design Support
Library staff can work with faculty to create or revise assignments that require the use of the library or other informational resources, including the Internet. Services can also include identifying information literacy objectives, providing you with ideas for classroom activities, and providing you with the means to assess the information literacy skills of your students.
How We Can Help Your Students
-
Research Road Trip
» Go to Research Road Trip
The CBU Library has developed these modules in WebCT to help your students learn concepts and skills for using the Libraries' databases, collections and resources. You can have your students complete the modules in two ways, as a registered user or as a guest.
-
Class Instruction
» Schedule a Class
A faculty member may schedule an instruction session for any class. The instruction sessions often work better with classes that have a research component. These sessions should start close to the time that the students begin their assignment.
Course-related instruction can be customized to meet the needs of your class' assignment. Examples of the kinds of material we can cover include such topics as: creating a search strategy, finding books and articles on a particular topic, using specific databases, and evaluating print and electronic sources. For classes with up to 25 students, sessions can be held in the library's Infolab, which enables students to learn in a hands-on environment.

Assignment Alert Form
» Go to Assignment Alert Form
Ensure that reference librarians are prepared for your students and your assignment by completing this online alert form before you give an assignment that uses library resources. With advanced notice, we will be better prepared to:
-
-
identify available resources for students
-
direct students to resources more effectively
-
refer to a copy of the assignment when clarification of requirements is needed
-
anticipate increases in demand for specific materials and provide security for these items (ex: materials can be put on Reserve)
-
assess the need for purchasing additional resources for the library's print and electronic collections
