Starting this fall (2008) we are offering a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. This degree is designed to provide a strong preparation for both the workplace and professional schools, including pharmacy school or medical school. The program places emphasis on development of a wide range of laboratory skills that are needed in today’s biomedical laboratories, whether they are found in industry or academia.
We also offer degrees in the more traditional areas of Biology and Chemistry that can be tailored to an interest in biochemistry.
At CBU we have a two semester sequence in Biochemistry at the upper level that has an Organic Chemistry pre-requisite - meaning these courses are serious courses in biochemistry. The first course,
CHEM 315 Biochemistry I, presently has a lab associated with it; and the second course,
CHEM 316 Biochemistry II, may have a lab associated with it in the near future. We also have several biology courses that should be of interest to someone interested in biochemistry including
BIOL 311 Genetics with lab,
BIOL 312 Vertebrate Physiology with lab, BIOL 321 Microbiology with lab, BIOL 367 Pharmacology,
BIOL415 Immunology with lab,
BIOL 421 Cell/Molecular Biology with lab, and BIOL 451 Neuroscience with lab. Our senior research courses in Biochemistry, Chemistry or Biology can be directed to provide you with a research experience with someone in the Biochemistry area if you wish.
The checklists and paradigms for biochemistry and for chemistry, along with course syllabi, can be found on our
Chemistry Department page. Similar info about biology can be found on our
Biology Department page .

Please note how many of our science courses have labs associated with them. These labs have very good equipment, and they are strictly for undergraduate students - they are NOT just for show. In particular, we have a
Molecular Modeling Center
in the Chemistry Department. We have a web page showing in detail some of the
equipment
used in our chemistry labs. In almost all cases, the professor in the course is also the professor in the lab associated with that course.
Information about our senior research can be found on our
research page .
