Courses taught: This year Dr. Clarke will be teaching PHYS 251 (Physics II) with lab, and PHYS 430 (Thermal Physics).
Formal education: Dr. Clarke has a B.S. in Physics, an M.S. in Phyiscs, and a Ph.D. in Mathematics (in Mathematical Physics), all from the University of Memphis.
Background information:
Dr. Clarke is a lifelong Memphian. He was in the corporate world for many years having worked as a controls specialist and electrical designer. He was also president of a private corporation for five years and built industrial control systems for companies worldwide. He subsequently managed the controls manufacturing division of a local engineering firm. In 2000, he enrolled at the University of Memphis to finish his degree in physics that he had started at Christian Brothers College, having never lost his desire to do research and teach in math and science. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree in physics in 2001, he completed a Master of Science degree in 2003 under the direction of Dr. Narahari Achar and Dr. John Hanneken, both of the University of Memphis. He defended his PhD. thesis in mathematical physics under the direction of Dr. Jerome Goldstein of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Memphis. During his time as a student, Dr. Clarke has been actively involved in research and teaching. He has coauthored several refereed publications in fractional calculus and mathematical physics. He was an invited presenter at the Royal Irish Academy of Sciences, symposium on diffusion and relaxation in disordered fractal systems, Dublin, Ireland. His research interests include asymptotic analysis, partial differential equations, and applications of fractional calculus in physics. Dr. Clarke looks forward to bringing his knowledge of engineering and his love of science and mathematics to the students at CBU.
