Title:
Associate Professor of Chemistry, and Length of service at CBU: Dr. Merat has been teaching at CBU since 1998. Courses regularly taught: CHEM 101 (Introduction to College Chemsitry); CHEM 113 and CHEM 113L (Principles of Chemistry I and lab); CHEM 114 and CHEM 114L (Principles of Chemistry II and lab); CHEM 315 and CHEM 315L (Biochemistry I and lab); CHEM 316 (Biochemistry II); and NSCI 118 and NSCI 118L (Fundamentals of Physics Science and lab). Formal Education: Dr. Merat has a B.S. in Chemistry from Southern Methodist University and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University. Research interests: Dr. Merat’s research interests include: 1) Isolation and characterization of possible calcium-binding proteins from soft plant tissues, including fruit produced by Actinidia deliciosa and by species belonging to the genus Ilex and 2) Investigation of possible roles for calcium-binding proteins in the maturation of fruit of species belonging to the genus Ilex. Service: Dr. Merat is currently serving on the General Education Implementation Committee and is assisting with the development of the new Bioinformatics program. Dr. Merat also serves as advisor to students in the chemistry and natural science degree programs. Dr. Merat serves on the Awards Committee of the Local Section of the American Chemical Society. Dr. Merat is Assistant Director of the Shelby County Science and Engineering Fair; he also serves on both the Steering Committee and the Scientific Review Board for the fair. | ||||
