Dr. Eric B. Welch is the Dean of the School of Engineering at Christian Brothers University (CBU) as well as a Professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE).  Prior to becoming dean, he served as Chair of the ECE Department from 2000 to 2005.

He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1985 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.  Subsequently, he also earned an M.S. and a Ph.D. awarded in 1987 and 1991, respectively.  As an undergraduate, he earned membership in Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu honor societies.

During graduate school he worked on a number of instrumentation projects for a variety of organizations including the biological engineering department and the Raspet Flight research laboratory.  His doctorial research focused on color space issues as they related to computational aspects of image translation.

As a faculty member, Dr. Welch has taught a wide variety of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. He continues to teach ECE 450 Computer Networks and the senior capstone course, ECE 400 The Compleat Engineer.

As Dean, Dr. Welch is committed to working with the engineering faculty in continuing the CBU School of Engineering tradition of excellence in engineering education. As part of this effort, he has focused on expanding CBU’s relationships with regional industry, area high schools, and other organizations.
