Department of History and Political Science

The offers a Major in History and Minors in History, Political Science, American Studies, and Women's Studies. The Department contributes to both the CBU Day and Evening programs with a wide variety of courses. The History program includes introductory courses on Western Civilization, World History, and U.S. History. There are also a variety of upper division courses offered, ranging from Ancient History to the Civil War, to Modern American and Modern European History. Political Science courses include introductory courses on U.S. Government and World Politics, as well as upper level courses in Comparative Politics, International Law, U.S. Foreign Policy, and Politics and Science Fiction.

The History faculty and a number of students are also active in Phi Alpha Theta, the International Honorary History Society. Alpha Delta Phi, the local chapter, is regularly engaged in service projects and stages a number of social and educational events that are open to members and non-members during the academic year. These include the sponsoring of speakers to the campus as well as visits to exhibitions and museums. Our members have also presented scholarly papers at regional and national Phi Alpha Theta conferences.

Many of our History graduates pursue graduate study or attend professional schools. In the recent past, our History graduates have entered graduate programs at St. Louis University, Duquesne University, Marquette University, Seton Hall, George Washington University, and many others. Other graduates have chosen to pursue legal studies at institutions such as The College of William and Mary, Seton Hall, and the University of Memphis. History and Political Science are two fields traditionally pursued by undergraduate students interested in attending law school.
