Bridging an Engineering Gap
CBU Offers Engineering Workshop on Bridge Design

Christian Brothers University (CBU) will host an engineering workshop for middle school students to learn about the structural design of one of the key fundamentals of American transportation, the bridge. This workshop will be held Thursday, October 8 from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m. in the Nolan Engineering Center, Room 241 on the CBU campus.

There are approximately 600,000 bridges in the United States, and over 75,000 of them are structurally deficient. Students will learn how these bridges can withstand the forces of nature and traffic, the major types of bridges, the materials used for construction, the forces acting on a bridge, and how long a bridge can be. Students will also get a chance to design, build, and test a bridge to failure.

This workshop is free and open to all students in grades 6-8. Seating is limited, so advance registration is required.
