CBU Junior Selected as Truman Scholarship Finalist
Memphis -- Christian Brothers University junior Burton Bridges has been selected as finalist for the prestigious Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship from more than 600 applicants. As one of 211 finalists, Bridges joins only three other Tennessee students, none from the local area, to be interview at Vanderbilt University on March 5th.
The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to persons who demonstrate outstanding potential for and who plan to pursue a career in public service, and the foundation conducts a nationwide competition to select Truman scholars. The Foundation awarded its first Scholarships in the 1977-78 academic year. Its mission is to find and recognize college juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in the public service. It also provides them with financial support for graduate study, leadership training, and fellowship with other students who are committed to making a difference through public service. The scholarship provides up to $30,000 in graduate school scholarship monies for students. ###
