Kingsbury HS Students Win Big In CBU Competition

Memphis- Two Kingsbury High School teams placed in the 6th Annual High School Engineering Competitions on Thursday, April 3, 2008. These competitions were hosted by the Christian Brothers University (CBU) School of Engineering and included four events that showcased different aspects of engineering.

The 9-Volt Tractor Pull, the event that the four Kingsbury students placed in, revolves around the designing of a vehicle powered by only a 9-volt battery and a small DC motor. The winners must pull the miniature tractors in a "tug of war" fashion contest.

Of the top three places in the Tractor Pull, Kingsbury students swept the top two. Jared Paden and Adolpho Ramos won $150 as the first place prize. Leslie Nelson and Shawn Sojourner placed second and won $100 for their work. These students were mentored by Jack Replinger and James Ritter, their Kingsbury teachers.

Approximately 80 students from 13 area high schools competed in the Egg Drop Packaging event, Balsa Crate competition and CO2 Car event, as well as the 9-Volt Tractor Pull. Representatives from local industries, governmental agencies and CBU faculty judged the competitions. The Medtronic Foundation and CBU co-sponsored the event. ##
