CBU Zetas "Paint the Campus Pink" for Breast Cancer Awareness

Memphis-- The ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha at Christian Brothers University (CBU) celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month all through October. On October 30, as a last big celebration and awareness project, the ladies blanketed CBU campus with balloons, awareness ribbons, and signs with breast cancer facts; in order to spread the word about breast cancer affecting women, and even men, everywhere. Since the plan was to surprise all the students, faculty and staff with the decorations in the morning before classes began, all this effort was done by the ladies before the sun rose.

With the early morning temperatures in the forties, the Zetas wrapped pink ribbon around the CBU columns that surround the walkways. The ribbons were also taped to a piece of paper with a name on it that said either "In Celebration Of" for those who had survived breast cancer or "In Memory Of" for those who had passed away due to the disease. Balloons and awareness ribbons were hung around various places on campus for all to see, and signs with facts about breast cancer were posted in high volume traffic areas. The Zetas requested that the students, faculty and staff wear some sort of pink clothing throughout the day, with many people gladly doing so.

Zeta's philanthropy is the Susan B. Komen Foundation in conjunction with the Zeta Foundation, so the ladies also did little projects throughout October. Earlier in the month on a chilly day, they passed out free hot chocolate with a breast cancer fact to students, faculty and staff. The entire Chapter participated in Race for the Cure on October 27 by setting up, handing out flowers to survivors, or running/walking in the race. In addition, a yogurt eating contest was held in order to collect pink lids for the ÒSave Lids to Save LivesÓ campaign. In September, they hosted the annual Mr. CBU pageant and raised over $4,000 for breast cancer.

The ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha would like to thank the CBU students, faculty, staff and everyone who celebrated and participated with them throughout October. ###
