CBU DEBUTS NEWLY RENOVATED UNIVERSITY THEATER
Memphis—Christian Brothers University (CBU) proudly announces the Gala Debut of its newly renovated University Theater on Sunday, April 22, 2007 at 5:00 p.m.
The Gala will feature noted musicians Victor Asunción, piano; Karen Busler, flute; Susanna Perry Gilmore, violin; Brother Vincent Malham, piano; Scott Moore, trumpet; and soprano JemmiLou Rye. They will be performing a wide selection of musical arrangements. Joseph F. Birch, Jr. will be the Master of Ceremonies. Immediately following this performance, a reception will be held in the Boshwit Courtyard on the CBU campus with Marian Shaffer, harpist, entertaining guests.
The University Theater was originally constructed in 1960. The largest meeting room on campus, this facility has hosted hundreds of liturgical celebrations, theater productions, concerts, and student/faculty convocation in its 47-year history. It has also been used by numerous community groups for musical and theatrical productions, symposia, lectures, and conferences. Renovation began in November 2006 with a lead gift from the Barret School of Banking which is housed at CBU and holds its annual banking institute on the campus every summer.
CBU gratefully acknowledges gifts from its numerous friends and supporters that helped to transform the Theater into a 21st-century educational and performance facility.
The Theater will not only serve as a venue for the theater arts, but a hi-tech meeting space for business programs and seminars. The Theater will also be made available to the general public for musical presentations, film screenings, symposia and lectures.
For persons attending the Gala, please RSVP by April 16 at (901) 321-3270. Parking for the event is available off Central Avenue in the main lot and student ambassadors will be on hand to serve as escorts or provide directions to the Theater. For information on sponsorship opportunities to the University Theater, please contact the CBU Office of Advancement at (901) 321-3270. ###
