MiCHAEL R. Ryan Named Vice President for Advancement at Christian Brothers University

Memphis -- Michael R. Ryan, Ph.D., has been named to the position of vice president for advancement at Christian Brothers University (CBU). Brother Vincent Malham, CBU president, made the announcement of Dr. Ryan's appointment effective August 1, 2007.

Ryan moves to the senior position of vice president, having served as dean of the CBU School of Business since August of 2006. He has also been a professor of marketing at the University since 2004 and has served as director of the M.L. Seidman Town Hall Lecture Series since it relocated to CBU in 2005.

"In addition to engaging personal qualities and a passion for CBU and our mission, Mike brings extensive community contacts, administrative experience and a successful salesmanship history to this challenging post," Brother Vincent said of the appointment. "I am very grateful to Mike for his enthusiasm to lead the program established by the Office of Advancement, and to work with the president, the board and the CBU family to help move the University forward in strengthening the financial base of the institution."

Having started his professional career as a pharmacist before moving into marketing, business and higher education, Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. He also holds the Master of Science and the Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi. Prior to joining the faculty at CBU, Ryan taught at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, serving as dean from 1982 to 1989.

As vice president for advancement, Ryan will direct all related operations in fund raising at CBU including major gift solicitation, planned giving, government relations, the annual giving campaign, grants, and alumni programs.
