CBU OFFERS HURRICANE KATRINA WORKSHOPS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Memphis.The School of Engineering and Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Christian Brothers University (CBU) will offer two workshops for high school students on Hurricane Katrina February 6 and March 1, 3:30-4:30 p.m., in Nolan Engineering Building, Room 241.
Dr. L Yu Lin will directing the workshop, and speakers will include three CBU alumni who now work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers: Patricia Fletcher ('88), chief of emergency management; Jason Allmon, PE ('98), value engineering officer; and Jonathan Pennington ('99), power team member.
Images of the New Orleans flooding will be used to help explain the sequence of events. Participants will use a computer Geographic Information System and pumping simulator to get a .hands-on. understanding of the difficulties of removing the flood waters from New Orleans.
This program is free of charge for students in grades 9-12. Advance registration is required. Workshop attendance is limited to 36 students, due to the limited number of simulator computers. Seats will be reserved in the order applications are received.
